About This Scholarship

The Canon Collins Trust, in partnership with the Ros Moger and Terry Furlong (RMTF) Scholarship Fund, is inviting applications for postgraduate study opportunities in South Africa for the 2026 academic year.

This prestigious scholarship supports exceptional individuals dedicated to academic excellence, leadership, and social impact in Southern Africa.

Eligible Fields of Study

Applications are open only to the following areas of study:

  • Justice – Climate Justice, Law, Economics, Politics
  • Education – Education policy and practice
  • Humanities – Literature, History, Anthropology, the Arts

Applicants must demonstrate how their chosen field will contribute to justice, equity, education reform, or cultural enrichment in Southern Africa.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Funding for Master’s or PhD programs at recognized universities in South Africa
  • Duration: Up to 2 years, renewable for a 3rd year in exceptional cases
  • Access to the Canon Collins Scholars Network – a vibrant community of professionals, academics, and activists
  • Ongoing mentorship, collaboration, and professional development opportunities

Conditions for renewal include:

  • Satisfactory academic progress
  • Submission of progress reports
  • Active participation in Canon Collins events and initiatives

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be a national or refugee of a Southern African country
  • Be residing, studying, or working in South Africa
  • Hold (or be completing in 2025) an Honours degree or equivalent
  • Intend to pursue a Master’s or PhD in one of the eligible fields
  • Demonstrate a strong academic record, leadership, and a commitment to social justice and community development
