Job Summary
The Communications Graduate Intern will support MTI’s communications efforts by capturing, documenting, and developing impactful content around project activities. The role includes working closely with field communication focal persons in Uganda and collaborating with MTI’s HQ Brand and Communications team to create content for branding, fundraising, and visibility purposes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Content Collection & Storytelling
- Capture images, videos, and human-interest stories from field locations.
- Interview staff, patients, and partners (with consent) to create compelling stories.
- Process and upload multimedia content into MTI’s content management systems.
- Maintain and manage the organization’s camera and multimedia gear.
Branding & Visibility
- Ensure all branding and visibility materials comply with MTI and donor guidelines.
- Coordinate with HQ Brand & Communications team for design and compliance.
Communication Support
- Collect and edit content for reports, newsletters, proposals, and media releases.
- Update and manage MTI Uganda’s SharePoint communications page.
- Support preparation of donor visibility materials and reports.
- Assist in organizing and documenting events, campaigns, and advocacy activities.
Capacity Building & Collaboration
- Support field communication focal points with photo/story collection guidance.
- Participate in global content community calls, trainings, and knowledge sharing.
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Promote and uphold MTI’s safeguarding policies for children and vulnerable adults.
- Conduct all duties with integrity, respect, and adherence to MTI’s Code of Conduct.
Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or related field (completed within the past 2 years).
Experience:
- Prior internship, volunteer, or work experience in communications is an advantage.
- Photography, videography, or basic graphic design experience is desirable.
Knowledge:
- Understanding of communication strategy, media engagement, and audience targeting.
- Awareness of mass media’s role in humanitarian and nonprofit communications.
Skills:
- Strong English communication skills (verbal and written).
- Excellent writing, editing, and interviewing abilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Graphic design and multimedia skills (Adobe Creative Suite preferred).
- Photography and/or videography skills highly desirable.
Abilities:
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure with tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.
- High ethical standards and integrity.
- Commitment to MTI’s mission and Code of Conduct.
